The Provost of Kwara State College of Education, Ilorin Dr. AbdulRaheem Yusuf today pacified members of the Non-Academic Staff Union (NASU) of the College and their Senior Staff Union of Colleges of Education of Nigeria (SSUCOEN) counterpart from embarking a peaceful rally which they had scheduled to hold this morning.
Members of the two Unions were gathering at the open space opposite the College library with a view to taking to the street after addressing themselves before the Provost arrived their midst. The Provost, after eulogizing members of the Unions, advised that their action would be counterproductive considering the meeting he, along with the leadership of all the Unions in the College, had with the Kwara State Governor, His Excellency Alhaji Abdulfatah Ahmed, yesterday where the Governor promised to ensure that their monies were paid on or before the end of Friday, the 21st of December, 2018 in four tranches rather than six as earlier promised.
He also added that the Governor promised to redress some other issues such as its categorisation of the College that placed it at a disadvantaged position in the scheme of things in the State. Before concluding his address, the Provost affirmed the acceptance of his appeal for which the aggrieved staff kept mum but later confirmed with a thunderous unanimous voice vote after one of the Union leaders put forth the motion before the members. They, however, restated that, if their demands were not met by Friday, the 21st of December, 2018 as promised, they would take actions that may not be palatable to the authorities.
