The Kwara State College of Education, Ilorin Chapter of Women in Colleges of Education in Nigeria (WICE) has disclosed that the chapter will host the year 2020 National conference of the association. This hosting was unveiled when the chairperson Dr. (Mrs.) Ololade R.O with other executive members paid a courtesy call on the Provost recently.

Dr. Ololade used the opportunity to acquaint the Provost with the activities of the association especially the running of a day-care centre that caters for the children of both staff and students. She further used the avenue to highlight some of the challenges of the association which according to her included, but not limited to, lack of patronage of the day-care centre by both the staff and students. Others include the inability to pay the staff of the centre as at when due, the lean purse of the association and facilities to make the centre attractive to the pupils and parents.

She, therefore, requested the College management to come to the aid of the association by providing facilities such as Plasma Screen Television, plastic swing and a well-furnished secretariat to serve the daycare and the associations respectively. On the moral standard of the College, Dr. Ololade identified sexual harassment as a canker worm bedeviling the College. She said while WICE would not rest until the war was won, the Provost should see it as one of the challenges he would have to tackle decisively.

In his response, the Provost Dr AbdulRaheem Yusuf thanked WICE for a visit and promised that the association’s challenges would be attended to as soon as the College’s economy improves. He, however, added that they should look outwards to shop for Non-Governmental Organizations (NGOs) and philanthropists across the state and beyond to sponsor some of their programmes. He advised them to put up credible proposals to both local and foreign NGO’s in an attempt to ensure that their yearnings and aspirations were met.
