Graduands of the Kwara State College of Education, Ilorin Professional Diploma in Education (PDE) programme have recently been inducted into the teaching profession by the Teachers Registration Council of Nigerian (TRCN). The event took place at the Multi-purpose hall B of the College where about 108 inductees of the 2015/2016 combined academic sessions took their oath of allegiance.

The Provost of the College, in his opening speech, informed the guests and inductees present that the induction which was his very first as the Provost of the College, would contribute to quality assurance and control in the teaching profession. He added that leadership is about growing new leaders and the greatest achievement of being a teacher is to be able to produce better teachers and develop leaders for the Community.”

He further stated that monitoring is essential in teaching and to sustain the vision and mission of the college, teachers must learn to empower leadership through effective teaching in their respective schools as teaching is all about supporting the passion and commitment towards sustainable development.

The Provost said that for the inductees to make a difference in their respective places of work, they should initiate innovative teaching and teach with passion, commitment and high sense of responsibility, and professionalism.

Administering the Oath of Allegiance, the representative of the Registrar/CEO of the TRCN, Mallam Adamu Bello congratulated the inductees and commended the College management for sustaining the legacy of the teaching and learning process. Adamu, who charged the inductees to be good ambassadors of their alma matter, urged them to embrace a high level of professionalism that will enable them to be at shoulder level with other professionals.

The guest lecturer, who is also the Dean of School of Basic and Remedial Studies of the College, Dr. (Mrs.) Ojibara N.B.L, enjoined the inductees to embrace the 21st-century professionalism to enhance their skills. She stated that teachers’ voices are driving forces for educational improvement and development, hence the need for them to guide the profession jealously.

In his vote of thanks, the representative of the inductees, Abdulraheem Nurudeen had earlier thanked the College management, TRCN, the leadership of PDE, the lecturers and the entire staff of PDE and the College as a whole for their cooperation and the provision of enabling learning environment throughout the period of their academic sojourn in the College. He promised, on behalf of other inductees, to remain worthy ambassador of their alma mater.
