Kwara State College of Education Ilorin, Acting Registrar Mr. Abayomi Lawal, had a briefing with the new School Officers and Administrative Secretaries today 19th of August, 2021 at the College Board room.

Mr. Abayomi Lawal in his speech said there is a need for them to acquaint themselves with the College rules & regulations, Public Service and Civil Service rules so as to be in tune with what is in practice in other states of the federation. He implored them to study these rules, should there be any administrative error, they will be held responsible.

He added that the School Officers and Administrative Secretaries should always have their say even when they can’t have their ways in their offices while advising them to always put their observations in writing. In his own words, he said, “a slight on the School Officers and Administrative Secretaries personalities, is a slight on the personality of the Registrar as well as all registry staff and invariably the college”.

He emphasized that they need to work for what they earn, be punctual in their duties and warned them to be diligent in carrying out their responsibilities.

Mr. Yomi Lawal said though the idea of having School Officers in various schools is already in practice in other Colleges of Education especially their counterparts at the Federal level, KWCOED, Ilorin is the first in the State. He further said that innovation and creativity which give room for progress is better than a situation where things go on the same way. He added that Registry staff are not subordinate to any other staff and thereby shouldn’t see themselves as inferior. He said there is a usual saying on campus that there are many Registry staff who have lesser duties, perhaps because of their nonchalant attitudes to work and just very few of them takes their duties seriously.

The Ag. Registrar then said that there is every need for career progression of the Registry staff, awareness of their full duties, ability to know what to do, when, where & how so as to be able to work efficiently and effectively enough. He, therefore, stated that all these can only be achieved through innovative thinking, going the extra mile and stretching themselves enough for the sake of improving the College in all ramifications.

The Assistant Deputy Registrar Establishment, Mr. Jibril Jimada, also used the opportunity to expose the new School Officers to the rudiment of their duties accordingly.

The School Officer from the School of Basics and Remedial Studies, Mrs. Ogundele, encouraged her colleagues to hold meetings with the staff in their departments so as to create awareness about the new offices, adding that as School Officers and Administrative Secretaries, they should show some leadership example in order to command respect.

In attendance were all the School Officers and Administrative Secretaries from schools, departments and units of the College.
