NANS KWARA MOTEST HOLDS SECURITY SUMMIT IN THE COLLEGE

In collaboration with Kwara State Ministry for Tertiary Education, the National Association of Nigerian Students held a day security summit and campus enlightenment programme, themed: “Securing of Campus: An Imperative Need for a Collaborative Effort”. It was held in the College Multipurpose Hall 2 recently.

The Acting Provost Dr. Jimoh Ahmed Ayinla, the Chief Host of the occasion ably represented by the Dean, Students’ Affairs Dr. Mrs. Olufunke Opadokun, welcomed all guests to the great citadel of learning. He said that the theme of the summit is very timely considering the level of insecurity in the country. While appreciating the summit's organiser for the initiative, he prayed that the deliberations of the summit would help restore security in the country, Nigeria.

Ayinla congratulated the National President of NANS, all executives and representatives from all states of the federation to the great summit and he wished them a fruitful deliberation and a safe journey back to their various institutions.

The Acting Provost Dr. Jimoh Ahmed Ayinla promised the NANS executive that the College would give them cash donations to support them in ensuring the success of the summit, adding that they should always come up with programmes like this, such that will positively impact the populace.

The PRO  of the Kwara State Police Command, SP. Ajayi Okasanmi, in his speech, said that the rampant issue now is banditry where students are their primary target, adding that to ensure safety on campuses, the government and parents should collaborate with schools to create security system on campuses such as fighting for the agitation to establish Police Stations across campuses in Nigeria.

He encouraged College authorities to make available a security team to de-radicalize known cultists and revitalize them back to the good system. He also said that they should encourage religious gathering on campuses, ensure the perimeter of the institutions should be fenced & electrified and make adequate provisions such that the hostels outside the campuses are patrolled by security officials.

The highlight of the event includes; NANS Secretariat, Unveiling of Secretariat Sticker, Presentation of Awards to Honoraries and Fund Raising for her Endowment Scheme.

Others in attendance are; the Kwara State Commissioner for Tertiary Education, Barrister Senior Ibrahim Sulyman, Founder RAF Foundation Engr. Rasaq Aliyu Apagutan, Founder ZETSI Africa Comr. Ibrahim Rasak Jeje.

Also in attendance are; NANS Chairman Comr. Saleeman Y. Issah, NANS President Comr. Asefon Sunday Dayo, NANS Executive Project and Empowerment Secretary Comr. Adebayo Kayode, S.A to the Governor on New Media and Jolaoluwa Afolabi (Jabulani), the Programme Director, Diamond FM.
