8.0 REQUIREMENTS FOR ENTRY INTO SANDWICH DIPLOMA PROGRAMME

8.1 Diploma in the Teaching of Arabic and Islamic Studies
This is one of the programmes run by the College. It started in July 1985 following the approval of the Kwara State Ministry of Education and the College Governing Council. The course programme runs for three contact sessions of eight to ten weeks each (July - September) of every session for theoretical parts, and from September to June of the session for practical teaching in the schools of the students normal assignment.
The students do their Teaching Practice after their second year. They also write Long Essay during the last session of their programme.
Entry requirements: Any candidate with one of the following qualifications is eligible for consideration for admission:
i. Grade II Certificate with credit/merit in Arabic and Islamic Studies.
ii. The General Certificate of Education (GCE) O/L or the West African Senior School Certificate (WASSC) with credit in Arabic and Islamic Studies.
iii. Higher Islamic Studies Certificate from any College of Arabic or its equivalent Application and Admission: Advertisement for application for admission is always out in February and shortlisted candidates are expected to pass a written concessional examination in Arabic Language and translation before they are finally given admission. At the end of the course, successful candidates will be awarded a professional certificate Diploma in the teaching of Arabic and Islamic Studies by the College, that would enable the recipient to teach effectively at Primary and Junior Secondary Schools.

8.2 Diploma in the Teaching of Christian Religious Studies
Any candidate with one of the following qualifications is eligible for consideration for admission:
i. Certificate in Theology or Religious Education from recognized Bible College or Theological College or Seminary.
ii. Grade II Teachers’ Certificate with at least, a pass in Bible Knowledge.
iii. West African Senior School Certificate/NECO Senior School Certificate with credit in Bible Knowledge or GCE O/L.
iv. Diploma Certificate from a Christian Training Institute (CTI). Prospective candidates are expected to take a written concessional examination to test their knowledge in Christian Religious Studies.
